Sea shanties and Lighthouses in Ms Finnegan’s 1st Class
Ms. Finnegan’s First Class have had a wonderfully creative time this week, combining art, music, and poetry in a seaside-themed project.
We were inspired by the story The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch and our very own local lighthouses—Poolbeg and the Baily. Using watercolours and oil pastels, we painted beautiful, bright lighthouses that now decorate our classroom with a splash of colour and sea breeze!
While we painted, we listened to sea shanties to help set the mood. Our favourite was The Wellerman, and we enjoyed it so much that we’ve started learning how to sing it together!
To finish off our project, we wrote our very own sea shanties—short, rhyming poems full of ships, waves, sailors, and sea creatures. The creativity and imagination on display were fantastic!
Well done to all of Ms. Finnegan’s talented first class artists, singers, and poets!
