Active Schools 2024/25
News
The junior infant classes had a wonderful opportunity to attend their very first assembly today. The assembly was presented by the most senior students in our school - 6th class. The assembly opened with the beautiful but simple poem by Séamus Ó Néill - Subh Milis. This was followed by speeches and notices by the students. We heard news from members of the Student Council, Active Flag and Greenschools committees. The closing song was Happy Endings by Mika. We are so proud of our sixth class girls and boys. First classes, senior infants and junior infants were so engaged and particularly loved the song at the end. Junior infants watched attentively and loved being there. The next assembly will be presented by the fifth classes. We are looking forward to that already.
As part of scoot to school week, the children were encouraged to Scoot on Wednesday (SOW) to school.
Thank you to Ms. Carroll's 6th Class for setting up a scooter obstacle course in the Belmont yard. Ms. McMyler's and Ms. McNulty's classes really enjoyed this activity as pictured below with their scooters and helmets.
Run, skip, have some fun,
Let's get active everyone!

On Sunday, 14th January, Katie McCloskey, Christina Ryan, Lil Bennett, Tom Bennett, Rachel Harnett, Tom Harnett, Alice Finan and Julia Finan from St Mary’s were very proud to represent their school in the Leinster Minor Schools Swimming Gala in the National Aquatic Centre in Abbotstown. A special mention to Tom Bennett who won a bronze medal in the Age 9-10 backstroke! Well done to all involved!
The boys took part in their first game and narrowly lost to Rathgar N.S.
Best of luck with the rest of your games 6th Class!
Last week we held the highly anticipated elections for this year's Student Council, Green School's Committee and Active School's Committee.
The children worked hard to plan and write their speeches. They then presented their speeches to the class in a clear, fluent and confident manner using the techniques of persuasive writing they have been practicing.
The candidates spoke about what made them apply for the position, the reasons they felt they deserved the job and shared some creative ideas they had if they were successful.
Each child voted and the following four successful candidates for this school year were elected:
Student Council - Síofra MacMahon
Green School's Committee - Aoileann O'Mahony and Charlie Savage
Active School's Committee - Rachel O'Dea
Congratulations to everyone who presented a speech and to our new class representatives!
