Over the past few weeks, Ms. O’Gara’s 5th Class have been taking part in a Read-Aloud project, where we listen to and discuss a different of text each day. Through this, we have discovered the many rich learning opportunities that can come from even the simplest picture book. From exploring new vocabulary and punctuation to modelling fluency, expression, and comprehension, each story has sparked meaningful discussions and learning.
The children worked to prepare their own picture books to share with our buddy class in Junior Infants. They practised reading aloud, planned the vocabulary they would teach and came up thoughtful questions to ask their buddies.
It was a wonderful opportunity for 5th Class to read aloud to the younger pupils. Both classes thoroughly enjoyed it.
