Creative February in St. Mary's
From 9 to 13 February 2026, we will celebrate Creative February in our school. This is a national initiative supported by the Arts Council that highlights the importance of creativity in schools and in education.
At Saint Mary’s, we are marking the final week before midterm with a special Creative Week. Our theme is Connect with Nature. During the week, children will take part in creative activities across the curriculum, including SPHE, Maths, Literacy, Science, and Visual Arts. Activities will vary from class to class and may include drawing, storytelling, movement, crafts, and nature-based learning experiences. Some classes will also take part in workshops and online sessions led by artists.
Each day, all classes will have time for drawing and for simple activities that help children notice and appreciate the natural world around them.
Homework for the week will be based on a Creative Choice Board. Children are asked to complete one creative activity each evening. These activities are designed to be enjoyable and flexible. They offer an opportunity for children to explore their own interests and share their creativity with their class.
We hope this week will be a positive and enjoyable experience for the children. We encourage you, if possible, to support your child’s creative efforts at home, whether that means noticing nature together, chatting about their ideas, or giving them time and space to make and create.
The Creative Committee.
