A Brief History of St. Mary's N.S.

A Brief History

534.JPG

St Mary’s N.S. began in 1981 when the then girls and boys schools were amalgamated. Previously, the boys school was in what is now the Parish Centre in the grounds of the Church of the Sacred Heart, Donnybrook. The girls school was originally in the Youth Club building on Belmont Avenue but a new school building was built in 1966 on the Belmont site. This building was extended in 1981 to accommodate the amalgamated schools.

We are now entering a very exciting time in the life of St Mary’s N.S. With the approval of the DES, our school is expanding and it will accommodate 24 mainstream classrooms when it is at full capacity. Our newly refurbished school building in Belmont Avenue opened in September 2016. In September 2016 we were able to offer places in Junior Infants to all the siblings and children of the parish of Donnybrook. Junior Infant, Senior Infant and 1st Classes are accommodated in this building while 2nd to 6th Classes will be accommodated in Muckross Park until the permanent school building in Muckross Park is ready for occupation.
