Senior Infants were greeted by Garda Barry earlier in the week to teach us about the duties of a Garda and what they do in order to keep us safe. They also spoke about why and how we can contact the Gardaí if we ever feel in danger as well as showing us the type of equipment they carry. They even showed how to take our finger prints!
Maths week was celebrated in Senior Infants in a variety of ways that the class really enjoyed from daily maths challenges to our indoor and outdoor maths trail. The class thoroughly enjoyed applying the mathematical concepts they have learned so far this year to real life scenarios such as by counting, adding estimating, measuring and recording with their partners.
A massive thank you to the parents association and students council for organising and making us some extremely tasty pancakes!
The boys and girls have been learning a lot about different types of houses and homes. We are able to name different types of homes and talk about what makes them different from one another.
We did a lovely paired work activity where the class had to design a home of their by sorting pictures of room furniture and deciding where they should go in the house. We finished off the exercise with a presentation and Q&A in front of the class.
A massive thank you to Ms. Kelly and her wonderful 5th class who came in to teach us about wellness and well being.
5th class created a lovely activity to share with us in designing beautiful wellness and well-being wells. We spoke about and wrote a list of people who we like spending time with at the top of our wells and wrote a list of activities we enjoy at the bottom.
We hope to see and work with 5th class and Ms. Kelly again soon!
and their brush on one side. On the other they had to make the same picture using their fingers! We had a great discussion about how different it was using their fingers in comparison to the brush. Art doesn't always have to be about the finished product, the process is just as important!
Senior infants have been practising our maths a lot and as you can see, we are doing amazing work with our sums! Coloring Squared was started on the idea that computational maths can be fun to practice and master.
This week we have been learning about the 4 seasons. We now know what we can see in each season and what makes them so special and different from one another. We can also talk about the seasonal cycle and what season to expect before and after each one.
For Art this week, the young artists have created a beautiful scene to describe what we see in each season using one tree.
Can you guess which season is which?
Today the boys and girls were learning about a wonderful Russian artist named Wassily Kadinsky and interesting facts about.
We used his art as inspiration to help us learn about primary colours and how mixing them can give us even more colours! We also learned about tinting and shading colours using the neutral colours black and white. After mixing lots of colours together and deciding on our favourites, we became artists ourselves and copied an artistic piece by Kadinsky named "Circles".
We have some very talented and happy artists in our classroom as you can see!
Teachers and pupils all dressed up in our Halloween costumes on the last day of term and raised money for Temple Street Children's Hospital. We showed off our creative costumes in a Halloween parade and had a wonderful day!
Fáilte go Naíonáin Mhóra!
