We began the month learning about land transport - trains, trucks, cars etc. We started looking at non-fiction (fact) books to learn facts about things that go! In Aistear, we had our favourite role play area so far - the train! We were fantastic at taking turns in role as the ticket seller, train driver, passengers and ticket inspector role playing lots of scenarios... we even had a cheeky puppy who jumped on board with no ticket - our ticket inspector quickly sorted him out! We worked together in the small world area to build a huge train track and made an assortment of vehicles in junk art! In Art, we created painted paper and made some tremendous trucks. They turned out beautifully....ask us about how we made them!
We particularly loved the story "The Lighthouse Keeper's Lunch" and are in the process of making some beautiful artwork based on this story. We loved acting out the story in the role play area and enjoyed taking turns as Mr. Grinling in the sail boat and in the lighthouse. We even had a real sail for our first mate to raise!
Our sand area turned into the water area this fortnight and our fingers worked hard using plasticine to design a boat which would float. It was very tricky! The team working on junk art worked together to design and create a boat which we tested in the water after. Luckily, they all floated! We figured out that plastic containers with holes sank and that cardboard wasn't the best material for boats...
Our last week of this theme is looking at planes, hot air balloons, rockets and so on! We are looking forward to role playing in our new 'Airport' before it transforms into Santa's grotto!
We have been really working hard on working as a team this month. We're trying hard to listen carefully to one another and learning that we sometimes have to meet halfway with our ideas.
Another fantastic month for Junior Infants - maith sibh!
