Now that summer has arrived we are looking forward to planting flowers in our school garden. We visited it for the first time last week and we are very excited to start gardening! This week, our AIstear theme is "The Doctor's Surgery". We are having lots of fun pretending to be doctors, nurses and patients. Today, we visited Ms. Finnegan's class to paint our clay pots. There, we also saw Ms Finnegan's caterpillars for the first time. Over the coming weeks, we will watch them grow into beautiful butterflies.
There are many budding scientists in Junior Infants. Have a look at our most recent experiment where we investigated floating and sinking! We predicted whether different objects would float or sink in water. We were very excited to find out whether our guesses were correct and we were surprised with some of our findings!
Ms Finnegan's class visited our classroom and we made clay pinch pots together! We loved working with the boys and girls from another junior infant class. We also played a game so that we could learn about about our new friends! We are going to visit their classroom too!
Our sunflowers have gotten very tall over the last month. We have been watering them regularly and have kept them in the sunlight as we learned this is very important for plants to grow. This week, we measured the height of our flowers using cubes. We are all very proud of our sunflowers! We have also planted vegetables such as carrots, turnips and spinach! Yummy! Soon, we will put them in our school garden. On Tuesday, we used the school ipads to practise our reading. We really enjoyed playing the phonics games and cannot wait to use them again!
This month we are learning all about "Transport and Travel". Our first book on this topic is "Rosie's Walk". We enjoyed the story and loved learning new words using hula hoops!
We have been very busy in Junior Infants. We all really enjoyed having 3rd class visit us before Easter. They helped us to practise our reading and writing! We also participated in a Tráth na gCeist with the whole school for Seachtain na Gaeilge. We had to listen really carefully to Ms. Purcell's questions and work together as a team to answer them. All of our teams did very well and we had great fun! We also made beautiful Easter cards to give to our families.
This week, we celebrated Seachtain na Gaeilge. We made a big effort to speak as Gaeilge throughout the week, enjoyed the first class plays, played games and had a treasure hunt as Gaeilge with Ms Moloney's class. We all dressed up in green for Lá Glas on Friday and everyone participated in our school parade!
Welcome to Junior Infants!
