Today, Junior Infants were treated to a drumming workshop where we got to explore a variety of percussion instruments and practice with rhythm and dynamics. Some of us even tried out some dance moves to the beat! Check us out below!
We have been having so much fun learning all about Space in Junior Infants. Here are some of our favourite facts...
The Aistear room has turned into our very own Space station. Take a look at the photos below to see what we have been up to!
In your child's hardback sounds book, you will find the first three "tricky words" pasted in - I, the, he. Tricky words cannot be sounded out or spelled correctly by listening for the sounds in them. They need to be learned from memory. Games such as pairs, bingo, flashcards etc are useful in helping children to remember them. Probably the simplest and most efficient way is encouraging children to identify them in story books - finding them in the title or throughout the book. Reading and writing the tricky words is our next step towards learning to read and write sentences. We will be sending out three tricky words per fortnight.
We have just finished sets 3 and 4 in the Jolly Phonics programme. See the clips below for the songs and actions for each sound. The sounds are getting a bit trickier as we are learning the vowel digraphs (ai, oa, ie). Our rule of thumb for recognising these sounds is "when two vowels go walking, the first does the talking".
Please continue to check each sound every Monday and Wednesday as well as reading the decodable and tricky words, as practice makes perfect.
We have been making huge progress with our reading and writing and cannot wait to show off our skills! We began writing in our 'give it a go' books this week and created fact files on penguins. We absolutely love writing and every effort is praised. Spellings at this stage are approximate as we begin to use the sounds we know to put words and sentences together.
Welcome to Junior Infants!
We are a lovely group of 23 girls and boys! Ms Ní Ghiollagáin is our teacher. Have a look at all the fun stuff we get up to in school here :)
