We took lots of pictures on our first day of school and we wanted to share them with everyone. We had a very exciting day getting to know all the boys and girls in our class. We made special hand prints to bring home for our Mummies and Daddies and we played with all the new toys in our class.
We went to Airfield farm on our school tour. We saw lots of animals including: lambs, donkeys, calves, cows, pigs, sheep and chickens. We also went on a bug hunt and we caught lots of mini beasts including 3 frogs! We planted some beans and we saw lots of vegetables growing in the garden. We loved travelling on the bus and eating our lunch altogether. We especially loved meeting billy the goat and learning the chinese chickens, they lay blue eggs! We saw a huge sheep called 'Dorset Sheep' they had big horns. We loved the Jersey cows and we saw where they are milked - their milk is particularly creamy! We learned so much, we were exhausted afterwards and so was Ms Finnegan!
We have been busy plating spinach, carrots, peas, nasturtiums, sweet peas, strawberries and potatoes! We have also had great fun using clay to create our own pinch pots. We worked with for them to Ms O'Sullivan's class to paint them as well. Our caterpillars have arrived! We have watched them grown from a tiny caterpillar into a bigger one. they then climbed up to the lid of their jars and transformed into chrysalides. We are waiting patiently turn into butterflies! We love working with the school ipads. We have been practicing our reading using an app on the ipads and have been doing great teamwork!
Today we had so much fun drumming in the hall with instructor Neil. We learned how to follow a rhythm. We also had the opportunity to use lots of different types of percussion. We really enjoyed drumming. Some of Ms O’Sullivan’s class also joined us today while we rocked out! We never knew we had such good rhythm. Ms Finnegan and Ms Naughter had to wear ear defenders… we don’t know why… but they looked like they enjoyed our beats! Thanks to the parents association for funding this lovely workshop for us.
We had so much fun speaking and learning Gaeilge las week. We created St Patrick's day Art, we took part in a treasure hunt with Ms D'Arcy's class and we dressed in green for Lá Glas in Friday. We went to a performance of the Three Little Pigs as gaeilge 'Na tri Muca' in Mr Murray's class and learned lots of new words. They are wonderful actors. We love celebrating all that is Irish!
We were very busy this week in Junior Infants. During Aistear we worked on The 'Farm' and 'Pets'. We created wonderful works of Art using print and construction. We made tulips using handprints, a spring sheep scene using bubble wrap printing and daffodils using egg cartons! Ms Finnegan was very impressed with the way we were able to work together as a whole class. She thought we were just like Senior Infants we were so good!
This week were lucky enough to learn about healthy eating! The parents association provided us with samples of a variety of fruit and vegetables to try each morning. Ms Finnegan didn't manage to get any photos as we gobbled them up so quickly! We learned a new poem this week and really enjoyed doing all of the actions:
Daffodowndillyby A.A. Milne
She wore her yellow sun-bonnet,
She wore her greenest gown;
She turned to the south wind
And curtsied up and down.
She turned to the sunlight
And shook her yellow head,
And whispered to her neighbour:
"Winter is dead."
We are looking forward to next week already!
Have a lovely weekend!
We had great fun making our Valentine's.... 'Hoo Loves you?'. We couldn't wait to give them to Mummies and Daddies! We love them lots!
We had a lovely visit from our Grandparents today! Ms Finnegan enjoyed meeting everyone and was so happy everyone made a big effort to travel from all corners of the country. The children had a great time showing their Grandparents their work and giving them a little tour of out classroom
