Junior Infants are really enjoying showing off their Jolly Readers reading books and I think you'll agree that they are making fantastic progress! Many thanks for all your support at home.
In order to help the children to become more fluent and confident readers, it is a good idea to revise all our sounds/tricky words each time before beginning their reading. This can be on the inside cover inside their reading book, or using their hardback notebooks. The vowel digraphs (ai, ie, oa, ou, oi etc) are particularly tricky and need the most practise.
Reading homework is sent home on Mondays and Wednesdays. With me being away in Santry with the athletics team on Monday/Tuesday this week and out last Monday, our routine was thrown a bit. Apologies for this - hopefully all back on track this week! The children will generally read one book per week.
A website which is a firm favourite at the moment in our classroom is "Help a Hedgehog". We have been working on beating our high scores by reading words as fast as we can.
Oxford Owl is another great website which we regularly use. It has hundreds of ebooks which can be read in conjunction with our school readers, on computers and tablets. You need to register once in order to login, but will have access to all the books instantly. The Oxford Reading Tree series are lovely - most children would be at level 1/2.
Junior Infants had great fun today with Simon during GAA training. We are very lucky to be getting this time to learn how to play Gaelic football for the next few weeks. We had a great time working on all the different areas of the game. We'll be pro's by the time we get to sixth class!
We had an amazing time in "Go Kids, Go!" on our first school tour! There was huge excitement all the way to Blanchardstown on the bus. The indoor play area was huge and included a disco, a ball shooting area, a football cage as well as the big play area complete with two big slides! Junior Infants had a ball, and for many the best part was getting to play with friends in different classes. We enjoyed having our snack together as a class in the party room and exploring with clay. We then had one last play before it was time to board back on the bus to St. Mary's...exhausted! Unfortunately Ms. Moran didn't manage to take too many pictures - time was too precious to stand still in the play area to get pictures taken :)
Welcome to Junior Infants!
