We had a fantastic day raising money for Temple Street Children's Hospital. We dressed up in scary Hallowe'en costumes and played lots of games in the Hall, including: pin the smile on the skeleton, catch the balloon in the cup, throw the spider, magic feely buckets, musical statues and musical bumps. We were exhausted by home time! It has been a wonderful 8 weeks of school. Everyone has worked so hard and learned lots. After Hallowe'en we will be beginning our new theme of Transport and travel. Ms Finnegan can't wait as she loves trains, boats and aeroplanes!! Have a safe and happy Hallowe'en! Here are some photos of our dress up day!
Ms Finnegan and Ms White brought their classes to the park along with Ms O'Sullivan and 5th class! We went on a scavenger hunt. It was great fun working with older students and learning all about Autumn.
Junior Infants are very excited to have completed Set 1 of their Jolly Phonics sounds. (s,a,t,i,p,n) This means that we are now beginning to try blending the sounds together to read words like sat, sit, pan, pit, nap etc. For some of us, this will happen quickly. Please don't be worried if your child is having difficulty - it is very early days yet! The most important aspect is to keep checking all your child's sounds each Monday and Wednesday in their sounds book.
Here is a youtube video of the jingles/songs that go with each sound. We have learned all of these so far:
At the moment we are learning 'All About Me'. We are talking about all the things we can do now that we couldn't do when we were babies! We have even learned so much since we started school. Look at our photos from our first day at St Marys.
We love reading stories. Little Red Riding Hood is one of our favourites! We explored the story during our morning time activities and had fun dressing up, making wolf masques, doing Little Red Red Riding Hood cutting activities and using play doh to make the characters! We also had fun using our imaginations and creating drama based on the story. At the moment we are learning all about the Little Red Hen and all the trouble she had ago go to when she wanted to bake her bread! Unlike the Little Red Hen's friends, we are so kind and helpful and enjoy helping each other every day with our kind hands and big smiles!
Phonics are so much fun! We like to sing the songs and do the action! We have been learning our phonics through station activities and whole class activities like stories and singing. We even get to practise at home! We love homework in Ms Finnegan's class! Look at us at work!
We began using our Aistear Room this week. Here is what we get up to in the Aistear Room ..... check this album for updates.
