Ms FInnegan's Junior Infant Class
We showered our Mummies with love this mothers day and had great fun making cards and presents for them! We hope they were spoiled this Mother's Day as they do so much for us. We hope they know how much we appreciate them! We also completed the Eat Well programme last week and got lovely certificates and rubbers at the end! We are so grateful to all the parents who contributed their time in facilitating this programme. We enjoyed tasting different fruit and vegetable every day! We are still running a Vet Surgery in our Aistear Room. Take a look at all the photos of what we have been up to!

We had a fantastic green day and got into the spirit of St Patrick's Day Celebrations. We created lovely pieces of artwork while listening to Irish Trad music. We dressed up in green white and gold and we even got to join in a St Patricks Day parade around the school with all the other classes! 6th class wrote Irish stories for us and came and read them to us. We are such lucky ducks! We spoke lots of gaeilge this week and there were plenty of 'Good morning Muinteoir's each day! We got stickers for our efforts and there was a gaeilgoir an lae each day. But we all made a huge effort to speak Irish this week, long may it continue!
Here are some photos of our lovely outfits and some photos of the Aistear room. Our theme this month is animals and we are focusing on the vets!
Junior Infants are making fantastic progress with their sounds! The ultimate goal is that the children will have instant recognition of all sounds, as well as all their tricky words.
In order to achieve this and to help the children to become successful and confident readers, it is vital that sounds and tricky words are checked (and their sounds book ticked) by a parent/guardian every Monday and Wednesday.
We have been reading short sentences. We are getting very good at learning things off by heart so be sure to check words in sentences in isolation and out of context to make sure they aren't memorised. Some good websites and apps to practice reading and writing are: www.oxfordowl.co.uk, Reading Eggs, little writer - the tracing app for kids, https://www.teachyourmonstertoread.com, www.doorway online.org.uk
Keep up the fantastic work!
We have been having so much fun with all the activities that have been going in in school. We have also been bringing our drawings to life! Amazing! Check out our photos:
We love Gaeilge in our class! We are so excited that it is Seachtain na Gaeilge this week. We are speaking Irish and receiving stickers and raffle tickets as awards. These photos are of us acting out the story of 'Goldilocks and the three bears' as gaeilge!
We have been gardening! We grew runner beans, baby carrots and cress. Check out the photos of us on planting day and look at the progress our vegetables have made! Soon our vegetables will be too big for our classroom. Unfortunately our school garden hasn't been developed yet.. (if anyone has any funding ideas or would like to donate talk to Ms Finnegan!). So we will be sending the plants home to be grown there this week. Here are some pointers to help you mind the vegetables so they grow big and juicy for eating!
You are very welcome to Ms Grace's Junior Infant class blog. We have 23 boys and girls in our class and we are all great friends. Our teacher's name is Ms Grace. We will be posting updates on all the fun activities that take place in our class.
