Time flies when you are having fun! Who could believe that we have already celebrated our 100th day in school!!!
Since the end of January we have been very busy most days in our Writing Workshop. The children have been drawing and writing great stories about their families, polar bears, and space, amongst other things!
We love writing. You will enjoy reading their stories when we send them home soon!
We had great fun making gingerbread men, (finally!!) We discovered that we needed quite a lot of equipment and ingredients to make them.
It was great fun mixing the ingredients, cutting out the gingerbread men and decorating them. They looked amazing when they were finished. Great baking Junior Infants 1!
Waiting to eat them was so hard!!
But first we wanted to share them with some of the people who help us in school-Josephine,Ms O'Daly and Adele. Poor Ms Purcell was on the other campus so she missed out!
Worth the wait!
Pancake Tuesday. Another tasty treat!
Many thanks to Ms Kelly, the Student Council and the parents who helped out. It was a delicious treat that all the children (and teachers) enjoyed!
Ten at 10
We participated in Operation Transformation's "Ten at 10" in the classroom. It was hard work but great fun!
As part of our themes-Farming and Healthy Eating we did some tasting experiments. We had to taste sweet, sour, salty and bitter foods and then sort other foods that we thought tasted the same.
Some foods like honey, sultanas, popcorn and cheese we liked quite a lot. Other foods like plain yoghurt, lemon, and grapefruit rind were not quite so popular-as you can tell by the facial expressions. The children were great and tasted everything!
Meanwhile in Aistear!
Others were busy role-playing on the farm, constructing and story telling in the small world area.
We have had a very busy last few weeks, full of festive fun as we prepared for Christmas! The children painted their T shirts for the Christmas show and the night before the performance, Ellie Elf came to our classroom and sprinkled them all with magic dust!!
We had so much fun with Christmas art activities. We made Christmas decorations and pictures and loved using glitter!!
All of the Junior Infants were fantastic in our Christmas show and we were all so proud of them. They worked very hard to learn their lines and songs and I think you will agree, they looked fabulous too!! Many thanks for all the help at home, it really helped and is much appreciated!
Santa's Workshop was our theme for Aistear so the little elves were hard at work helping Santa get all the presents ready!
There were lots of other activities to do as well and everyone had great fun!
We had an extra special treat on Wednesday when Ms Kiernan brought her class down to read stories that they had written for us!! Junior Infants loved it and were really excited to hear their own names as characters in the stories. A big thank you to Ms Kiernan and all the children in Second Class. We hope to be able to share some of our own writing with them later in the year!
A very big thank you to all of the children for all your hard work this term. I have thoroughly enjoyed teaching you all. Many thanks also to all of you (parents!) for your support over the first term and for your very kind and generous gifts this Christmas.
I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas break and look forward to seeing you all in the New Year.
We have been working, learning, making friends and having lots of fun since we started in St. Mary's In September! We love our new school building and our big, bright classroom. We do so many different things in school each week so here are a few photos to give you a flavour of a day in the life of a busy Junior Infant!
In the morning we work in our groups on lots of different activities. We share, co-operate and have fun together.
We have been working very hard and learning so much with the Jolly Phonics programme. We have learned so many sounds now and are getting very good at writing letters. We can even read and write simple words now!
We love PE. We often enjoy Go Noodle activities in the classroom or listen to music and move around the room. Mrs Dawson does wonderful lessons with us in the yard or in the hall when it is really cold!
One of the highlights of the day is our trip to the Aistear room. We have worked on the themes of Houses and Homes and Transport and have just started our Christmas theme so we are all very excited!
We do Maths every day. We have been working on matching and sorting, pattern, counting and adding.
We really enjoyed dressing up for Hallowe'en. We had so much fun when we were invited down to the hall by Ms Kelly and the School Council to play the games they had organised.
We also really enjoyed baking and then tasting our delicious breads. We made a healthy fruit bread and banana bread. They were so delicious we ate it all and didn't have any to send home. We are looking forward to baking again soon for Christmas and if you are lucky we might have enough left to share this time!!
Write something about yourself. No need to be fancy, just an overview.
