Saint Mary's enjoyed a first ever experience of League of Ireland football on Friday night with an enjoyable visit to the U.C.D Bowl for the opening match in the Airtricity League, First Division against Shelbourne F.C.
Our boys soccer team were invited to the game and to take part as official mascots. The Boys also had the opportunity to walk out with the teams at the start of the game and to play a short match during the half time interval in front of a crowd of over 500 spectators. The U.C.D club were also kind enough to sign a football for us as a nice memory of our visit.
Everybody thoroughly enjoyed the experience and we are extremely grateful for the invitation. We wish the UCD squad the very best of luck with their season ahead and we hope to return to the Bowl again soon.
We now look forward to continuing with our own Tuesday morning Soccer training sessions for both our boys and girls teams in preparation for the FAI Primary Schools 5 a-side competition which takes place next month.
A special thanks to Jim Duggan and U.C.D for supplying us with some photo's of the experience, to the parents of our boys soccer team for taking the time out of their Friday evening to bring the boys to the game and especially to U.C.D A.F.C for making the night possible.
