A big congratulations to the girls from fourth and fifth class in St. Mary’s N.S. who won the Junior Girls Dublin Mini-Basketball Championship in the Teresian School, Donnybrook, on Tuesday, 22nd May. The girls put on some great displays of passing, dribbling and shooting and showed great resilience and teamwork in a tight final to come out on top! Well done to all involved!
Our 4th class boys and girls basketball teams enjoyed a lovely day out in in Sandymount against St.Mathews Primary school.
A huge thank you to all parents for providing lifts to the venue.
Saint Mary's created a fine bit of history today in winning not one, but two Mini-Basketball League titles for our girls and boys basketball teams at The National Basketball Arena, Tallaght.
We are all extremely proud of this achievement and would like to acknowledge the hard word and contributions made towards this success by the players, coaches, parents and supporters on the day for getting us over the line.
Over the coming days we will write up a match reports for both games and attach any photo's sent in of the fantastic day.
Both of our girls and boys teams joined the list of teams participating in the Mini Basketball league Finals after comprehensive wins yesterday against Holy Trinity National School, Leopardstown. The challenge facing Saint Mary's was no easy task as Holy Trinity NS went into the game winning all of their games so far.
Our boys team were up first and showed grit determination and a collective team spirit to repel the Holy Trinity attack in the first quarter. Once we weathered the storm, Saint Mary's began to show their quality and scored some very nice team points. Our high tempo passing game along with off the ball running allowed us to come back in the second quarter and see the game out 14-8
Our girls team took their game up another level with moments of quality. Quick dribbling, and consistent passing allowed us to create a lot of scoring chances. The girls showed a fantastic team spirit by coming back from a losing position in the final quarter and winning the game 13-8.
Admirable traits shown by both sides was their teamwork, high energy, discipline and never to give up attitude in tight moments of the game which we should all be proud of. Our progression from the beginning of the season is fantastic to see.
The success of our league performances has now put us through to the finals of the Mini Basketball League season which will take place next Tuesday (21th November). Our boys team will be playing against Burrow NS at 11:30am and our girls team will be playing against Divine Mercy GNS, Lucan at 12:45pm. The game will take place in The National Basketball Arena, Tallaght.
Saint Mary's enjoyed plenty of possession and scoring chances but were unable to beat two very good San Treasa sides in the Mini-Basketball league on Tuesday 8th November.
After a shaky start, our girls team showed great character and resilience to bring them within a score of drawing the game at one point by scoring 8 points in the final quarter. The game sadly finished 12-18.
Our boys team started the game brightly and competed well throughout the match but were on the wrong end of the score-sheet this time around. The game finished 13-16.
We are extremely pleased with the performances of both our boys and girls sides. Saint Mary's will be hoping to put the experiences and skills learned in their first two games to good use when they go up against Holy Trinity, Leopardstown (Date and time TBC).
Saint Mary's started off their campaign in the girls and boys sections of their respective leagues with a win and a narrow loss against St. Matthew's National School.
Our boys team played some exciting basketball, particularly in the first quarter, and dug deep in the final moments of the last quarter to earn a well deserved win.
Our girls team performed admirably and very narrowly missed out on a win. We are extremely proud of their display and look forward to turning the hard work from both teams today and in training into a win next week.
St. Mary's are extremely grateful to Muckross Park College for the use of their indoor facilities for the game. The coaching staff would also like to thank all the parents for their support at the game today.
Our next game is fixed against St. Andrew's Primary School on Friday, 20th October in Muckross College Park.
Training resumes on Tuesday after school.
Saint Mary's have wasted no time in beginning preparations for what is hoped to be a very promising and exciting Basketball season!
