We had a look at Vermeer's most famous work, 'The girl with the pearl earring.' We used this as inspiration. We drew and painted our own girl with the pearl earring piece. We then used buttons to create our own '_____ with the button' pieces.
This week's artist inspiration came from Paul Klee. We draw portraits of ourselves with pastels. Then, we used squared tissue paper and placed it over our portrait. We painted water on top of the tissue paper and peeled it away. We were left with lovely colours from the tissue paper over our pastel portraits!
We have had a very busy and creative first two weeks of Art Club. During the first week we looked at the artist, Renoir and his beautiful 'Umbrellas' painting. We were inspired to create our own umbrella designs, using a mix of paint and twistables. We also had a messy time making rain with two shades of blue paint! We sprayed the paint from bottles onto shiny paper and watched it run down the page!
This week we looked closely at Vincent van Gogh's 'Sunflowers' painting. We had fresh sunflowers on our art tables to examine and watched a mini cartoon based on Vincent van Gogh. We then sat at different tables to create our own van Gogh inspired sunflowers masterpieces. Some of us painted, others used chalk pastels and others used a mixture of twistables and markers.

Our tour to the NGI included up close and interesting discussions on 'Still Life with a Mandolin' Pablo Picasso, Claude Monet, 'Argenteuil Basin with a Single Sailboat', 1874, Jack B. Yeats (1871-1957),'Morning in a City' and Gareth Reid's portrait of Graham Norton that won the Sky Portrait Artists competition.
We also got the chance to see the Margaret Clarke exhibition. Before our tour of the highlights started, we were also given the opportunity to see a competition run for children called “Dublin 2116.” We were really inspired by all the art we saw! Thanks to Ms Keenan for accompanying us on the trip, a lovely afternoon was had by all!
Just a reminder to the current block of artists that we will be going to the NGI tomorrow for our session!
