Big thanks from all at St Mary's to all at Lisney Auctioneers for sponsoring our fancy new soccer kit!
St Mary's boys and girls gave great accounts of themselves and their school at this year's FAI 5 aside tournaments in Adamstown recently. It was the school's first ever outing at this event and, though they did not qualify for the next round, they had great fun competing and showing off the skills that they had practiced on Thursday mornings with Mr. Cody and Ciarán Cassidy.
The boys came close to winning their first ever game, a great goal from Tom Downey after captain Robert MacDonald put him through put the team ahead before they lost 2-1. They went down in their other group games by narrow margins but never gave up and did the whole school very proud. The team also included Elliot, Harry, Toby, Archie, Noah and keeper Syd.
The next day, our girls burst onto the 5 aside scene with a brilliant 1-0 win thanks to a brilliantly worked goal which was finished off in style by the unstoppable Clíodhna Maher, who also saved a penalty during the day - a woman of many talents! The girls may not have qualified for the next round as they came up against some very strong opposition, but everyone in Adamstown agreed that they had the best spirit at the tournament as they could be heard chanting and cheering each other all the way back in Donnybrook! Great performances were put in by players such as Jenny, Eloise, Anna, Ella, Ciara, Anna, Evie and our goalkeeper Ellen!
The Active School Flag (ASF) is awarded to schools that strive to achieve a physically educated and physically active school community. The process aims to get more schools, more active, more often. Here at St. Mary's NS we believe that we are well on the way to winning this great honour, with our full schedule of activities available for our students before, during and after school!
