Today, 5th class had a visit from Louise from Goal, who taught us about global citizenship. We learnt that Goal is a humanitarian organization which helps save people’s lives and provides developing countries with better education, employment, healthcare and economic opportunities. Louise explained Goal’s mission statement and discussed the work they have done in countries such as Syria, Greece, the Phillipines, India and Nepal.

We read a novel about this man called Ice Man by Michael Smith and we completed a book review on it. We completed many creative writing activities on this topic. We learnt about how hard it is to survive in Antarctica and about the effect global warming is having on this continent. We also learned about heat conductors in science. Additionally, we wrote diary entries about Tom Crean and how he must have felt on his first night on the Discovery. In art, we created a polar landscape using chalk pastels.
