Second Class Explores the Wonders of Autumn with Sixth Class in Herbert Park

6th Oct 2023

Autumn has arrived, and at St. Mary's School, we believe there's no better way to learn about the seasons than by immersing ourselves in nature. Our second class recently embarked on a remarkable adventure with the help of the knowledgeable sixth class students. Together, they ventured into the stunning Herbert Park to uncover the mysteries of autumn. As the children stepped into the park, they were greeted by an array of colours that only autumn can provide. The trees stood tall, adorned with leaves in various shades of red, orange, and gold, creating a picturesque backdrop for their exploration. Guided by their older peers, our second class learned about the changes that happen in autumn. They discovered how the trees shed their leaves, preparing for the colder months ahead. The children also had the chance to observe the minibeasts in Herbert Park. They found everything from bees, centipedes, and caterpillars, to ladybugs, beetles and ants. Squirrels also scurried about, collecting acorns for their winter stash. The sixth-class students shared their knowledge about these seasonal behaviours, making the nature walk both educational and engaging.

Thanks to the sixth class students and the incredible resources of Herbert Park, both classes now have a deeper understanding of the season's transformations after a fun trip to the local Park.
